Capitol Complex Parking

Visitor Parking

A "Visitor" is anyone visiting the Capitol Mall to carry out state business or attend a state sponspored event.

Street-Side Parking

There are many metered and un-metered street parking spaces throughout the Capitol Complex that are available for visitors doing business in the Capitol Complex. These spaces are managed by Boise City, and are NOT under the control or jurisdiction of the State Department of Administration. Contact Boise City Parking Control for any questions or concerns pertaining to regulations on the use of these spaces.

Visitor Parking Lots

There are two visitor parking areas in the Capitol Complex which allow parking without a permit for up to two hours:

Other Downtown Parking

Click here for a map of parking lots in the downtown area that are reasonably close to the Capitol Complex. The map may not be current - check with individual lot owners for current data.

Visitor - Handicapped Parking

Vehicles with a State handicap plate or placard can park in metered parking spaces without having to pay the meter (per Boise City rules).

The visitor parking lot on the northwest corner of 6th and Washington Streets and the visitor parking lot located on the southeast corner of 6th and State Streets, in the Capitol Annex parking area, are available for parking by vehicles displaying handicap license plates or a placard issued by the Idaho Department of Transportation.

Employee Handicapped Parking

Capitol Complex employees may apply for a reserved handicap parking space. Upon payment of the general space monthly fee, a space will be issued as close as possible to their office. The employee must submit either:

To apply for a reserved handicap parking space, fax a physician's statement or proof of handicap permit to Facilities Services at 208.334.4031 (attention "Parking").

In addition to reserved handicap parking spaces, Security is available to transport handicapped individuals to and from their vehicles. Contact the Security Control Center at 208.334.3468 for assistance.

Motorcycle Parking

“Free” motorcycle parking is available throughout the Capitol Mall for Capitol Mall employees ONLY. Motorcycle spaces are located at the ends of parking rows (marked with the word “motorcycle”) or in other areas designated for motorcycle parking. Motorcycles parked in motorcycle spaces must display a CMP motorcycle permit. These free permits can be obtained from Capitol Mall Parking.

Bicycle Storage

There is a bicycle storage room located in the basement of the State parking structure at 550 W. State Street in which Capitol Mall employees may leave their bikes between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Space is limited and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. In order to obtain a key, the department supervisor must submit a key request through preventive.maintenance@adm.idaho.gov.

There are bicycle racks located near each building in the Capitol Complex as well. All bikes need to be removed each day.

Parking Garage Hours

The State parking garage at 550 West State Street is open on daily from 5:00 am to 8:00 pm normally, and from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm during Legislative Session. If you need to access above the first level of the parking garage after hours or on weekends, contact Security at 208.334.3468 or press the call button at the elevator. Other Capitol Mall lots are available for public parking on weekends.

Parking Regulation Enforcement

Parking warnings and citations are issued by Capitol Mall Security for vehicles found in violation of parking regulations. The collection of any charges associated with a parking violation are handled by Boise City Parking Control.

Reporting Safety Concerns

If you see something that may pose an immediate threat to people or property, please contact the Capitol Complex Security Control Center at 208.334.2222 (emergency number only). Please record as much information about the incident or situation as possible. The following information is very helpful:

Changing Agencies,Terminating Employment

If you are changing agencies, you must report your transfer to Facilities Services. Use the "Update Registration Information"form to do this.

If you are leaving State employment, use the Cancel Tag Form (PDF) and return your tag to Facilities Services.

Towing Policy

Vehicles will be towed from Capitol Complex parking areas only after every effort has been made to contact the vehicle owner.

Parking Meters

Street parking, including parking meters, are under Boise City Parking Control. For more information about policies associated with Boise City Parking, see their website at www.cityofboise.org/customer_and_support_services/parking_control.

Changing Vehicles

You may use your purple tag in any vehicle that you may drive, provided that it is registered with Facilities Services. To add a vehicle to your tag, use the "Update Information" form.

Parking After Hours And On Weekends

Capitol Complex parking areas and the first floor of the State parking garage are available for public parking outside of normal business hours (approximately 6:00 am to 6:00 pm) and on weekends.

Where Can I Park?

Click here to view a map of parking lots in the Capitol Mall. There are certain areas that are designed for assigned parking only. The entire first floor of the parking garage, and the spaces immediately north of the PTC building are assigned, and thus are NOT available for general parking. Others spaces may be set aside for special purposes as posted - pay close attention to signage.
